How does this calculator work?

We use the classic two‑gene model taught in high‑school biology. Brown tends to dominate over green, which in turn dominates blue. These simple rules explain most European eye colors. Each parent passes one copy of each gene to their baby; by combining the possibilities we get the percentages you see.

Real genetics is messy: researchers have found 50+ genes that tweak melanin levels in the iris. That means our numbers are anestimate – not a guarantee. Think of the graph as bingo odds, not a crystal ball.

FAQ

“I have hazel eyes. Where do I click?”

Hazel usually behaves like green in genetics, so choosinggreen is the closest match. We still show hazel as a separate swatch for fun.

“Will my baby’s eyes change after birth?”

Possibly! Melanin can build up for 6–9 months, darkening blue or gray eyes toward green or brown.

“Does ancestry matter?”

Yes. Our table is based on studies in mainly European families. Populations with very dark or very light eye-color distributions will see different odds.
